Local Love: The Compassionate Parent Coach

This marks the premiere installment of a new monthly series entitled Local Love, featuring amazing Vancouver mamas doing incredible things in their businesses, lives and families.

I’m delighted to be kicking off the series with Margery Healey, The Compassionate Parent Coach. Each time I hear her speak she leaves me with new insight into the way I’m parenting our littles and, best of all, feeling like ‘I’ve got this’. She is gentle, empathetic and takes the stress and guilt out of parenting.

On to our interview….

Tell us a little about you and your family.

I am the proud mama too three amazing boys. A set of red headed identical twins and a third little man who affectionately calls himself a fire bullet. Together myself and my husband have created an environment in which we all work hard and play hard. I spend my quiet moments on my yoga mat and my husband finds his happiness on the golf course. All three of my boys love hockey, running, swimming & Menchies frozen yogurt! Their spirits are our inspiration! In our family we laugh and we cry. We do well and we mess up. We are the Healey’s and we are proudly perfectly imperfect!

Tell us about The Compassionate Parent Coach.

As a Parent Coach I connect one on one with parents to help them work through the struggles we all face when we raise children. I also spend my time speaking at preschools and private venues all throughout the lower mainland discussing the hot topics of parenting. Understanding how children grow and develop will help parents find techniques that will work for their child(ren). I approach all parents with love, understanding & compassion. Raising children is hard work and we all need someone to be our support at one time or another.

What inspired you to start The Compassionate Parent Coach?

My inspiration comes solely from my own children. They are a constant source of blog material and they humble me as a parent and as an individual. When I had the twins almost 11 years ago I knew whatever I did had to have meaning and purpose – Not only for myself but for a way to authentically model for my boys that life is full of joy when you are doing something you are passionate about. I have an intrinsically motivated love for all things parenting and being a Parent Coach is purposeful and joyful all at the same time!

What do you love most about your business?

I know this may sound funny, but… What I love about my business is that I never have to tell a parent what to do. You will never hear me say, “you should do…” or, “if you follow my advice…” Instead I ask key questions that will help parents find answers and ideas that work perfectly for them and their children. Every parenting plan is as unique as the family I am working with!

What do you love most about being a mom?

What I love about being a mom is that I get to witness my children’s journey. I am full of gratitude that they are mine and that I get to guide and teach them about the ways of the world. It doesn’t mean I don’t want to sell all three of them every once in a while… It just means that I see the joy that exists in watching them grow!

I know balance can be a dirty word but how do you balance your family and work lives.

I often like to make a distinction between the words ‘balance’ and ‘choice.’ If we attempt to juggle too many balls we are bound to drop one. However if we choose to only juggle what we can we are more likely to stay a float. I love to do it all and I find I often agree to do more than I can. During those times I am reminded of what chaos looks like and I quickly revert back to choosing carefully and restoring order. My kids often hear me say, ‘I am only one mom.’

See what I mean, mamas? Isn’t she amazing?!
