This kid seriously needs to go back to school.
If you’re not from around these parts, I’ll catch you up to speed. Our teachers have been on strike since early June. The teachers union and government are locked in a bitter dispute, resulting in kids who are still not back to school.
And it’s tough.
This kid loves school. He loves his teachers, misses his friends (though we’ve had multiple playdates) and needs to be stimulated and learning.
We’re making do. Our days are filled with strike camps and family fun days, like a day spent on Bowen Island or our trip to the apple barn in this photograph. Side note… Best. Apples. Ever. It was a long drive but we were on our way out to the lake anyways so not terribly far out of the way. I’ll leave out the part where I let them go into the corn maze by themselves only to find out it was way bigger than we thought it was resulting in them screaming from inside the maze because they’d been in there a really long time and couldn’t get out. Ahem.
In short…. we’re managing, but barely.
I’ve had countless conversations with other mamas who are struggling to get through. We all seem to have an air of panic and restlessness; like we just don’t have time or sanity to juggle the camp schedules from one week to the next.
So this weekend I wish for you peace and family time and rest. And a break from madly refreshing your internet browser to see if magically the strike has been settled. Here’s hoping…
